STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) — A 36-year-old Oakdale man accused of killing a 9-year-old boy in a random shooting has been found incompetent to stand trial.

Nhan Tran is accused of randomly shooting at passing cars near his suburban home in February 2013. Authorities say three people were hit by bullets, including Devin Aryal, who died.

A Washington County judge found Tran incompetent to stand trial Monday. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Tran has been civilly committed to the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter since a few months after the shooting.

Tran was deemed competent for trial in June 2014, but his attorney asked for a reevaluation and an October trial date was canceled. He was found incompetent after evaluations three times in 2013.

The judge ordered Tran's competency be reviewed again in six months.
