Accused Minneapolis Child Rapist Has History of Mental Illness
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Court records show a Minneapolis man accused of raping a 10-year-old girl has a history of mental illness.
Thirty-four-year-old Ahmed Hersi Abdi was charged Tuesday with two felony counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. He's accused of raping the girl Sunday in the hallway of the Riverside Plaza apartment complex.
Minnesota Public Radio News reports that Abdi was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was committed for treatment last year.
The Hennepin County District Court initially ordered Abdi to be committed until this May and later extended the order to November. But he was discharged from the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview in January.
In August, the court revoked the discharge and ordered Abdi to return to psychiatric in-patient care.
