Only one male and one female athlete in the Big Ten receive this award each year. This is the second straight year a Gopher women's athlete earned the honor. Minnesota swimmer Jessica Plant won the scholarship in 2015.

Mable will be recognized at the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament in Indianapolis next week. The award is named for former Big Ten Commissioner Wayne Duke.
