Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The month of March this year was among the warmest and wettest on record in the Rochester area.

The National Weather Service says the average temperature last month at the Rochester Airport was 38.6 degrees. That was 6.1 degrees above normal and made it the eighth warmest March on record, but it was still over 10 degrees cooler than the warmest recorded in March in 2012.

The warmest reading during the month was 68 degrees on March 8th, while the coldest was 2 degrees above zero on March 2nd.

The National Weather Service says the precipitation total for the month was just under four inches, which made it the third wettest March on record. Over a fourth of the monthly total fell on March 15th and 16th when the 24 hour precipitation total was 1.16 inches.

Rochester saw the 14.9 inches of snow last month, which was over six inches above normal. The largest 24 hour snowfall event occurred on March 24th when the city received 5.9 inches of snow, which also set a new record for that date.
