Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Those attending Thursday night’s SocialICE in downtown Rochester can be assured it will be much warmer than it was during opening night last year.

Temperatures were already slipping below zero as the event began last year but there was still a crowd of brave souls. When this year’s event begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, temperatures will be in the 30’s, although brisk winds will make it feel cooler.

Those attending Friday and Saturday can also expect warmer weather.  Temperatures were in the teens during the second and third nights a year ago. This year they are expected to remain in the 30’s.

SocialICE runs from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. Thursday and 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. There are seven different ice bars and several ice sculptures that should survive the warmer weather.

The event is being held at the Peace Plaza again this year. There is no admission charge.
