Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A setback for those hoping to begin using the Chateau Theater in downtown Rochester.

Bids for the planned short-term renovation of the historic building came in above budget and the City Council is being asked to reject them. All three bids were over $1-million.

Staff is now recommending seeking bids for the roofing portion of the project separate from the other modifications. Staff is also recommending allowing more time in hopes of securing lower bids.

It now appears activation of the building for public purposes won’t take place until the middle of next year.

The City Council is scheduled to vote on the recommendation at Monday’s evening meeting.
