Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  Many area roads became slick Monday night due to the rain/snow that fell and the sudden drop in temperatures.

It has also been very windy since Monday evening with gusts clocked at 50 mph at the Rochester airport early Tuesday.

The Minnesota State Patrol and other public safety agencies have been busy dealing with jack-knifed trucks, crashes, and vehicles that left the road. Motorists are being urged to allow for extra time and take it easy.

Rochester experienced its warmest December day ever Monday as the temperature at the city airport soared to 64 degrees. The previous record was 63, set Dec 17, 1939. But a few hours after the record was set around 2:30 PM, temps were falling fast and slipped below freezing around 8:30 PM. It may not get above freezing again until Sunday.
